Yes you heard it correctly – we farewelled our home on wheels on Friday…………..we had advertised it to see if we got any bites given we weren’t going to be using her for 12-18 months or so - had an interested buyer who drove 6 hours to come and have a look, and offered a reasonable price so we sadly sold her.
We think it was the best idea given she was only in open air storage – we picked her up the other day when the temps were in the late 40s – some of the laminate strips had started peeling off in the heat, and even the lino seemed to be lifting in some places! I had to clean it all out as it had a lot of our stuff in it, had the air con on full blast while in there but couldn’t get the temp below 35 degrees – it was like working out in a bloody sauna!! But several hours later we had her looking spick and span – which made us sadder to sell her actually. Here is our last photo of her
Our plans are still up in the air really in regard to what we are going to do after life in Kalgoorlie (though some people think we will end up staying here forever!!). We would still like to caravan around the coastline in WA, and are thinking that we might pick up a smaller second hand van closer to that time, We know we want to end up back on the Sunshine Coast so now that we have some more money in the coffers we are thinking of planning ahead and buying a house there to rent out for now – we will have to do our research on tax implications etc before we jump in to that though.
The temps here in Kalgoorlie have been ridiculous over the last couple of weeks – although the news isn’t reporting the temps we and others are actually getting here, like 50 degrees midday last week!!! We had a scare with the evaporative air con unit in the bedroom in the house we are housesitting the other night – I was still on night duty time so finding it hard to sleep anyway, and about 3am I could smell burning so ran outside looking to see if the roof was on fire with the air con unit. There have been a few house fires reported in the news lately about fires starting from these units. I turned it off and we tried to make do with fans in the bedroom for two nights, but its disgusting trying to sleep in a furnace so ended up using it again….seems okay now thank goodness. Apparently this heat isn’t normal for here – just our luck to strike a really hot summer!! But we musn’t sound like whingers – I guess in winter we will be wishing for the heat again.
So now we have a whole lot of stuff from out of the caravan to try and find some room for….amazing how much stuff actually fitted in there!!!
