our journey so far |
We had a nice evening last night in Tumby Bay having drinks with a couple parked next to us. They had lived in Kalgoorlie for 15 years 20 years ago….they said they enjoyed their time there and still have a couple of their kids living there who love it so that was good to hear. They have a corgi who weighs 16kg and is apparently not overweight….looked absolutely massive next to Chip, but they got on like a house on fire.
We woke this morning to the most beautiful day..even the sea breeze was lovely and warm. The temp gauge on the car showed 32 degrees at its hottest today.
We headed through to Port Lincoln to meet up with an old work colleague from Brisbane – as usual our stupid GPS didn’t pick up any of the street names she gave me as its in a new area (guess if I updated it via the internet that might help) but with Carolyns instructions we finally found our way there. What an awesome house it will be when its finished – can’t wait to see the after photos on facebook Carolyn, and thanks for a lovely cuppa and catch up!
We then headed to Coffin Bay – which we were a little disappointed in after hearing all the hype about how beautiful it was. I guess if you are in to fishing then this would be like heaven but if your like us and like sandy beaches then its not the place to be. Coffin Bay is famous for its oysters and you can see the oyster farms all sitting in the bay..here are some photos

Of course we had to try out the fish n chips and oysters and given both of us are not in to fresh oysters we tried them kirkpatrick style -here is Mals experience:
My taste experience was pretty good...the taste of the sauce and the ham took away that 'lick the bottom of the seabed taste' that I reckon all seafood has....the fish n chips were even better!
We then headed out to farm beach....a bit further along the Flinders Highway then off road on a dirt track for 9km. We are staying in a basic campground - $5 per night, only amenities are toilets with showers so no power or water. There are a few other campers here. The beach is pretty usual for this coastline, lots of seaweed with huge piles of it along the shoreline, which is a pity as it would be so pretty otherwise. Here are some photos:
Chip found another stick and started to dig as usual... |

the seaweed...such a shame... |
We will stay here overnight then we are going to head further along the coastline to see what we can find.....
