Day off – sightseeing

I have survived my first week at Mildura Base – and to be honest I have really enjoyed it! The staff are all fantastic and have helped me settle in really quickly – on top of that the medical staff are great too – very respectful, and very easy to get along with – a nice change!  Its a teaching hospital so there are a lot of students around at the moment too which I always enjoy. I haven’t actually caught a baby yet but have looked after a few women in labour and ended up at emergency section last night – good to get the experience of theatre over and done with early in the piece.  We work between the ward and birth suite on different shifts which is great and although some of the girls work in the special care nursery I don’t enjoy that so have said I would rather not.  Clientele is a real mix, there is a large Vietnamese and Tongan community in one of the towns close by and a large Aboriginal population also, along with Italians, Chinese and Anglo Saxons.

Mal has been busy the last couple of days printing off flyers to post in letterboxes for general handyman work – he got up early this morning and took Chip for a walk and dropped off about 100 – fingers crossed he gets some phone calls!

Today we jumped in the car and headed out to Red Cliffs which is about 15-20 minutes south of Mildura.  Its a small town known of course for its red cliffs along the Murray River, here are a couple of piccies

We then headed to Woodsie’s Gem Shop – full of gems of all description.  It has a cafe so we stopped there for lunch as well – doesn’t Mal look cute in his little outfit below???

We drove along a bushland area by the Murray River where a marina for houseboats is on the way back home.  Obviously a few people actually live on the house boats while the others moored along there are for hire.  Some of them are huge and basically floating houses – not a bad way to live I reckon!

Tomorrow we are hiring a little dinghy from the campground and heading out exploring on our own up the Murray River with Chip included – should be a bit of a laugh!!
