We headed off from Wagga Wagga today. General impressions of the place were really positive – it had a nice little country feel to it, but also had all the amenities you could need there too.
We stopped off at a weigh bridge before heading off to Finley. We haven’t actually weighed the rig before so we were a bit hesitant however we were really pleased to find that its well below its limits! Bugger, I had a clean out too -needn’t have chucked all that stuff away after all! Its fun replacing it again though isn’t it girls???
The drive to Finley was good – the GPS took us off the main highway and through some back roads, though not before we ditched all our fruit (after chowing down on some first) as we were coming up to a fruit fly inspection point – the signs were all stating $200 spot fines for undeclared fruit with a maximum fine of $11,000!!! We were 50 metres away from the checkpoint when the GPS steered us left…..bloody typical! Never saw another sign or hint of a checkpoint on the rest of our route!!
We went through a couple of lovely little towns on the way to Finley – and Finley itself seems very pleasant. The camp ground is beside the lake and we have pulled up in to a lovely spot for the night – the weather is gorgeous as I sit here typing with the sun beating down on me, and I even cracked out the jandals for the first time since we arrived back in Oz. We took Chip for a walk around the lake and everyone is so friendly….wonder if they need a nurse/midwife here??? Chip is exhausted now, sitting on dads lap fast asleep – he hasn’t had so much exercise in a long while.
Here are some photos of our campsite and our neighbours – some llamas (or alpacas???)
