Ennis to Killarney

We took the ferry across the Shannon estuary this morning so we could get to Dingle for a drive around the peninsula. On the way we drove through Limerick ( and did some Limerick writing of our own - will put these at the end of the blog for you to read). We also drove through Tralee - famous for its annual Rose of Tralee competition.

We stopped off at Dingle for lunch - a gorgeous seaside village which was very busy with tourists today - its long weekend here as Monday the banks are closed due to the Queens jubilee even though it won't be celebrated here in Ireland.

Dingle is known for its dolphin that has frequented the bay for many years - its name is Fungie!!

We drove round the peninsula after lunch - a very narrow road and steep in places - thank god the driver is from the area (our normal driver is on days off) as you needed to know the road.  I got some fantastic photos from up there - just a beautiful part of Ireland.  We were really lucky that it was our turn at the front of the bus so we had awesome views also the weather had improved.

We are now in Killarney where we stay for two nights. First job was to do all our washing which we caught up on. We went out on the town on Friday night and it was packed in every pub (and there are quite a few).  There are a huge group of bikers in town for Irelands bike convention and being long weekend everyone seems to have flocked here.  Unfortunately for them the weather has been terrible so instead of riding round the scenic roads these guys are sitting in the pubs!

On Saturday we drove round the Ring of Kerry which is a 161 mile scenic drive. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best so thank goodness we got good scenic photos the day before. We had a quiet avo/evening - a nice change of pace.

The TV channels have been full of the Queens 60th celebrations however no celebrations happening anywhere here.

Today (Sunday) we are off to Tramore stopping off at Blarney and Cork on the way.

My Limericks

There is a jolly bus of travellers cosmos is its name

Zoomin round the UK sightseeing is the game

A few kiws, canadians and other races

But predominately ozzies with those funny faces

Who all bring the bus to shame!

There was a cosmos tour guide whos music choice wasnt the best

He tormented the coach with tunes and music that sent us off to rest

We tried in vain to suggest some songs
Rod Stewart, U2,  and even the Gongs

But he just treats us all with jest!
