Tramore to Dublin

After a few cloudy days we woke this morning to beautiful sunshine.

Our first stop was just down the road in Waterford - famous for its crystal.   Unfortunately we weren't there long enough to do a tour of the workshop so just looked around the showroom. Beautiful stuff with hefty pricetags - for example a reasonably sized grizzly bear for €30,000 and the average chandelier €15,000! Needless to say we walked away empty handed.

Waterford itself is a pretty town by the sea. It still has some remains of the old city wall.

We then passed through New Ross which is the ancestral home of JFK and Enniscorthy a small quiet town apparently badly hit by the recession.

We drove through the Wicklow mountains (hills really) to get to Avoca where the TV series Ballykissangel is filmed. There is also the oldest woolen mill in the UK here in the most beautiful setting. We had a tour of the mill which was fascinating - the looms used today are over 100 years old and still working perfectly. They make all sorts of items and export all over the world.

We stopped at Glendalough for lunch, another lovely village. There are a few Irish christian ruins there and a very old cemetery, the oldest grave we found dated back to the 1700s which coincidentally was a woman who died on my birthday! (good reminder for Mal).
