Today we arrived in Bamburg late morning. We docked at a not so impressive dock which gave us no idea of what the city was like. Although we are a bit 'toured' out we decided to do the city tour just because we could not make our way in to the city easily by ourselves....we were pleasantly surprised...
the tour guide was very interesting and gave us a good run down of Bamburg....70,000 population, about 10,000 students.....the city was not affected by bombing in the war so all original....known for its beer breweries - largest number in Bavaria!!! Particularly known for its smokey beer
We had a good walk round the main parts of the city...beautiful with cobblestones again, lovely quaint buildings, ornate churches etc
We spent the avo on the ship setting sail for our next destination. We are now half way though the 68 locks we have to go through but we are still passing through very low bridges so our top deck is closed. We were sitting out in the sun the avo on the front deck watching the scenery go by when we passed a very low bridge. The wheel house had to sink to the lowest point it can, and we had to all sit low in our chairs....I chose to kneel on the ground just in case....boy it was close!!!!
After dinner tonight we had a quiz in the lounge...it was hilarious and the first time we have got together as a group and done anything like that. Aren't personalities amazing particularly when you have different nationalities...Americans...well I can't decide if I loathe them, love them, or pity them, they really are different to us ozzies and kiwis! Needless to spell out our group didnt win...blame the two Americans in it!
